Membership of the Board
The Board comprises members of the Australian community who are situated to make a significant contribution.

The 14 members of the Board bring a broad range of skills and experience to the work of the Board and each has a record of achievement in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors:

The Board reports to the Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister.
The Board will be the government’s main advisory body on social inclusion and will consult widely and provide views and advice on various aspects of social inclusion.
Board members are appointed by the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister for a period of up to three years. Board members are eligible for reappointment.
The Board met for the first time in Melbourne on 21 May 2008. A record of the outcomes of that meeting will be available here shortly, with those of future meetings, as they also become available.
The Board will engage with community, business, the not-for-profit sector, academics, advisory groups and all levels of government to connect better policy with the knowledge and experience of the research, business and community sectors. This will help the Board to build evidence based policy and use networks to create innovative solutions.
Terms of Reference
The Australian Social Inclusion Board will:
- Provide advice and information to the Minister for Social Inclusion on how to improve social inclusion across the country.
- Consult widely and provide views and input on various aspects of social inclusion including how to measure disadvantage and social exclusion, how to increase economic and social participation, and how communities can be engaged with social inclusion matters.
- Report annually on progress on social inclusion to the Minister for Social Inclusion.
- Provide advice on specific matters referred to it by the Minister for Social Inclusion.
